CPR compliant

What is CPR?

(REGULATION (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and the Council)

This is the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) issued by the European Parliament, setting the requirements and characteristics that all construction products must meet within the European Union.

What is a construction product?

Construction products include all those intended for permanent incorporation into building works, whether buildings or civil engineering projects. Currently, cables that meet this criterion are considered construction products.

Example

Digit 1

Fire propagation and heat emission performance

Euroclass

Digit 2

Smoke emission performance (s = Smokes)

Euroclass

Digit 3

Droplet/particle fall performance (d = Droplets)

Euroclass

Digit 4

Acidity performance (a = Acidity)

Euroclass

How does this affect cables?

The CPR specifies seven basic safety requirements for construction works, one of which is fire safety—directly applicable to cables.
To address this, a series of CLASSES (Euroclasses) has been established to classify products based on their fire performance, along with an Evaluation and Verification of Constancy of Performance (EVCP) system, which defines the certification procedure for product compliance depending on the class.
This has created a unified and consistent classification system: a common, understandable language for all involved parties. However, each country must legislate through the appropriate regulatory bodies (REBT, ICTel, RSCIEI, etc.) to define the minimum Euroclass for each type of installation.

DoP (Declaration of Performance)

A document prepared by the manufacturer that identifies the product, its intended use, and expresses the cable’s fire performance.
